Collection: Bucktails
A bucktail fishing lure is a type of fishing jig or spinnerbait that is dressed with hair from a buck (deer), synthetic fibers, or sometimes both. The hair or fibers are attached to the lure’s body, typically around the hook, giving it a flowing, lifelike movement in the water. This mimics the appearance and movement of small baitfish or other prey, which attracts predatory fish.
Bucktail lures are versatile and can be used in both freshwater and saltwater fishing, targeting species such as striped bass, pike, walleye, and flounder. The natural or synthetic fibers in the bucktail flare out when retrieved, creating a pulsating motion that makes it especially effective in provoking strikes. Anglers often fish bucktails by casting and retrieving or jigging them near the bottom.
